ITEM EXPLANATION: The U.S. Chamber Foundation recently announced that the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce Ready Carlsbad Business Alliance (RCBA), a relationship between the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce, the /City of Carlsbad and local businesses, had been selected as a finalist in the U.S. Chamber Foundation Corporate Citizenship Awards' Best Disaster Response & Community Resilience Category. The other two finalists are UPS International and the Las Vegas Sands Corporation. RCBA was selected because of its business preparedness symposium program and the contribution it made to community recovery following the May 2014 Poinsettia Fire. The City of Carlsbad Emergency Preparedness Coordinator is a founding member and co-chair of the Alliance. FISCAL IMPACT: No direct costs will be borne by the City of Carlsbad. Travel, lodging and conference fees, totaling less than $1500, will be reimbursed by the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: Pursuant to Public Resources Code Section 21065, this grant application request does not constitute a "project" within the meaning of CEQA in that it has no potential to cause either a direct physical change in the environment, or a reasonably foreseeable indirect physical change in the environment, and therefore does not require environmental review.
