RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2016-043 accepting a donation of $5,000 from the Friends of the
Carlsbad City Library in memory of Maureen Tracy, directing a letter of thanks, and authorizing
the Administrative Services Director to appropriate the received funds to the Library & Cultural
Arts budget.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The Friends of the Carlsbad City Library have donated $5,000 in memory of former Friends'
President and longtime member Maureen Tracy, to be used in support of library programs and
services.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Donations from the Friends of the Carlsbad City Library augment the operating budget for the
Library allowing the purchase of materials and the continuation of programs for the community
that otherwise might not have been possible.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
Pursuant to Public Resources Code Section 21065, this action does not constitute a "project"
within the meaning of CEQA in that it has no potential to cause either a direct physical change
in the environment, or a reasonably foreseeable indirect physical change in the environment,
and therefore does not require environmental review.
EXHIBITS:

received funds.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD,
CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTING A DONATION OF $5,000 FROM THE
FRIENDS OF THE CARLSBAD CITY LIBRARY IN MEMORY OF
MAUREEN TRACY TO THE LIBRARY & CULTURAL ARTS
DEPARTMENT AND AUTHORIZING THE ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES
DIRECTOR TO APPROPRIATE THE RECEIVED FUNDS
WHEREAS, the Friends of the Carlsbad City Library have donated $5,000 to the City of
Carlsbad for the Carlsbad City Library in memory of Maureen Tracy; and
WHEREAS, Maureen Tracy was a former President and active member of the Friends of
the Carlsbad City Library; and
WHEREAS, the donation from the Friends of the Carlsbad City Library augments the
operating budget for the Library allowing the purchase of materials and the continuation of
programs for the community that otherwise might not have been possible.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California,
as follows that:
1. The above recitations are true and correct.
2. That the City Council accepts the gift of $5,000 in support of the Library's collection
and programs from the Friends of the Carlsbad City Library and directs a letter of
thanks, on behalf of all residents of Carlsbad, and hereby authorizes the
Administrative Services Director to appropriate the received funds to the Library &
Cultural Arts Department operating budget to support the collection and programs.
