•$1.25 million in SANDAG Grants; –$2.25 million total •3 alternatives –4 lane signalized intersection –3 lane signalized intersection –2 lane roundabout intersection Past Direction •October 2013 Council direction “Pursue exploration of expanded partnership opportunities with California State Parks, with the goal of enhancing beach facilities and services along the full extent of Carlsbad’s coastline” City-State P&R Partnership •5 miles of state-owned beach within the City of Carlsbad –California State Parks operates under significant budget restrictions –The result is a lack of ability to provide basic maintenance services City-State Parks & Recreation Partnership •Long term maintenance and operations agreement –Expanded partnership opportunity with California State Parks –Basic maintenance –Capital improvement projects –Recreation programming –Public safety City-State Parks & Recreation Partnership •Benefits of a long term agreement –Protection and enhancement of our greatest natural/tourism asset –Quality of life enrichment of a top notch attraction –Key destination for over 3 million visitors each year City-State Parks & Recreation Partnership •Met with local and regional Parks & Recreation staff •City delegation met with Steven Szalay, Special Advisor and Transformation Team Leader of CA St P&R, in Sacramento in Jan 2016 •Steven Szalay to meet with city delegation in Carlsbad Mar/April Improving the Carlsbad Coastal Experience Status Report Questions?
