ACCEPT A DONATION FROM THE CARLSBAD LIBRARY AND t..K DATE 6/28/2016 ARTS FOUNDATION IN THE AMOUNT OF $165,270 CITY ATTY.

RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution accepting a donation of $165,270 from the Carlsbad Library and Arts Foundation to the
City of Carlsbad's Library & Cultural Arts department, and send an appropriate letter of thanks.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The Carlsbad Library and Arts Foundation has generously offered to donate $165,270 to the City of
Carlsbad's Library & Cultural Arts department, as follows:
1. $78,700 from its Robert H. Gartner Endowment Fund to support cultural programming in the
Ruby G. Schulman Auditorium at the Carlsbad City Library complex.
2. $11,000 from its William D. Cannon Art Gallery Endowment Fund to be used for programs,
exhibits, and activities associated with the William D. Cannon Art Gallery.
3. $75,570 from its Benson Family Endowment Fund to support library materials, offer an English as
a Second Language (ESL) program, and fund scholarships for individuals to achieve their high
school diploma online through the Career Online High School Program
FISCAL IMPACT:
These donations will be used as stated above to enhance cultural programming, exhibits, activities, and
library services throughout the Library & Cultural Arts department.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
Pursuant to Public Resources Code section 21065, this action does not constitute a "project" within the
meaning of CEQA in that it has no potential to cause either a direct physical change in the environment,
or a reasonably foreseeable indirect physical change in the environment, and therefore does not require
environmental review.

RESOLUTION NO. 2016-118
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD,
CALIFORNIA, AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF A DONATION
FROM THE CARLSBAD LIBRARY AND ARTS FOUNDATION IN THE
AMOUNT OF $165,270
EXHIBIT 1
WHEREAS, the Carlsbad Library and Arts Foundation has generously offered to donate
$165,270 to the City of Carlsbad's Library & Cultural Arts department, as follows: $78,700 from
its Robert H. Gartner Endowment, $11,000 from its William D. Cannon Art Gallery Endowment
Fund, $75,570 from its Benson Family Endowment Fund; and
WHEREAS, acceptance of this donation will provide enhanced cultural programming in
the Ruby G. Schulman Auditorium, support programs, exhibits, and activities associated with
the William D. Cannon Art Gallery, purchase library materials, fund an English as a Second
Language program and scholarships for individuals to achieve their high school diploma online
through the Career Online High School Program at the Library Learning Center.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California
as follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
2. That the City Council accepts with thanks the donation of $165,270 from the
Carlsbad Library and Arts Foundation.
