Approval of a Resolution accepting the Contract for Construction of the 2015 Slurry Seal Project, Project No. 6001-15SS as complete and directing the City Clerk to record a Notice of Completion and release bonds in accordance with state laws and city ordinances. Executive Summary On Nov. 17, 2015 the City Council approved Resolution 2015-286 to award a Contract to American Asphalt South, Inc. in the amount of $1,506,824 for the construction ofthe 2015 Slurry Seal Project, Project No. 6001-15SS. American Asphalt South, Inc. completed the Contract work on April 29, 2016. Staff has inspected the work and found it to be satisfactory. Staff recommends accepting the Contract for Construction of the 2015 Slurry Seal Project, Project No. 6001-15SS as complete and directing the City Clerk to record a Notice of Completion and release bonds in accordance with state laws and city ordinances. Discussion As part of the City of Carlsbad's ongoing Pavement Management Program, this project slurry sealed roadways which were selected and approved via Resolution 2015-286 program based on the existing pavement condition. The application of asphaltic emulsion-aggregate slurry protects the pavement from wear and oxidation, ultimately extending pavement life and minimizing long-term maintenance costs. Prior to slurry sealing, cracks were sealed and asphalt concrete patches were made to areas of deteriorated pavement. The final change order is being negotiated and is expected to be well within the remaining contingency amount.
