These concepts are then applied to incident command, tactics, strategy, and firefighter safety. Staff is requesting approval for out of state travel for four fire department personnel to Phoenix, Arizona on June 8-9, 2017. Discussion The fire department is requesting authorization to allow four personnel from the ranks of Battalion Chief and Captain to attend the two day Hazard Zone Management Conference in Phoenix. The four personnel attending are the fire department's lead instructors on the subject matter and conduct the required training internally. All-Hazard Incident Management was adopted by the North San Diego County fire agencies in 2015 as a way to address the changing environment of the fire service which includes natural and man-made disasters and terrorist events. This year's conference will provide the fire personnel attending updates on risk management, fire ground accountability, ethical decision making, management and leadership, and tactical operations. Fiscal Analysis Sufficient funds are available in the Fiscal Year 16-17 fire department budget to fund the requested travel. The approximate cost for four personnel to attend this two day conference, including registration, travel, and accommodations is $3,300 which will be split between the Fire Department's budget and funds the Fire Department has earned through the California Fire Fighter Joint Apprenticeship Committee (CALJAC). Cal-JAC seeks to improve the quality of education and training within the fire service and set a professional standard for firefighters through the State of California.
