Subject: Approval of the 2020 Regular City Council Meeting Calendar
Recommended Action
Adopt a Resolution approving the 2020 Regular City Council Meeting Calendar.
Executive Summary
Staff is proposing a City Council meeting schedule for 2020 that includes meetings set aside for
informational presentations and community involvement.
Discussion
The City Council establishes its regular meeting schedule annually by Reso lution. Adopting the
calendar by Resolution meets Brown Act requirements (Government Code §54954) and
provides the City Council the opportunity to increase notification to the public of its scheduled
regular meetings. Special meetings can still be called as needed by providing 24-hour notice
before the time of the special meeting.
For calendar year 2020, staff is proposing two regular meetings per month (except for August
and December) at which the City Council will consider routine agenda items such as consent
calendar items, ordinances, public hearings and departmental reports. In addition, for all
months except for November, staff is proposing a workshop-style meeting that will be intended
for City Council to receive informational items that do not require City Council action or to seek
specific feedback from the community on a certain topic. All meetings will be scheduled to take
place at 6 p.m.
Fiscal Analysis
There are no significant fiscal impacts that would result from adoption of the attached
Resolution.
Next Steps
The city clerk services manager will distribute the approved calendar to the City Council, staff
and local newspapers. In addition the calendar will be posted on the city's website.
Environmental Evaluation (CEQA)
Pursuant to Public Resources Code section 21065, this action does not constitute a "project"
within the meaning of CEQA in that it has no potential to cause either a direct physical change
in the environment, or a reasonably foreseeable indirect physical change in the environment,
and, therefore, does not require environmental review.

This item was noticed in accordance with the Ralph M. Brown Act and was available for viewing
at least 72 hours prior to the meeting date.

RESOLUTION NO. 2019-223
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD,
CALIFORNIA, APPROVING THE 2020 REGULAR CITY COUNCIL
MEETING CALENDAR
WHEREAS, the Carlsbad City Council has determined it will establish its scheduled regular
meetings annually by resolution; and
WHEREAS, the Ralph M. Brown Act (Government Code §54954) provides for the
establishment of an annual regular meeting calendar procedure; and
WHEREAS, special meetings of the City Council will be called as necessary following the
requirements of the Brown Act (Government Code §54956).
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California
as follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
2. That the 2020 calendar establishing the dates and locations for regular City Council
meetings (Attachment A) is hereby approved.
3. That the 2020 calendar will be posted to the city's website.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a Regular Meeting of the City Council of the City of
Carlsbad on the 12th day of November 2019, by the following vote, to wit:
AYES: Hall, Blackburn, Bhat-Patel, Schumacher.
NAYS: None.
