Parks & Recreation Commission Work Plan for Fiscal Year 2019-20
Recommended Action
Adopt a resolution approving the Parks & Recreation Commission Work Plan for fiscal year
2019-20.
Executive Summary
Carlsbad Municipal Code (CMC) Section 2.15.020 (C) requires that each board, or commission
provide to the City Council for its approval an annual work plan of activities to be undertaken.
On Nov. 18, 2019, the Parks & Recreation Commission unanimously accepted the work plan for
FY 2019-20 and is recommending that the City Council approve the work plan.
Discussion
In 2018, the City Council revised the CMC to create uniform policies and procedures related to
boards and commissions. CMC Section 2.15.020 (C) requires that each board or commission
provide to the City Council for its approval an annual work plan of activities to be undertaken.
The work plan includes the activities that the Parks & Recreation Commission anticipates
undertaking in FY 2019-20. The purpose of the work plan is to encourage increased dialogue
between the Parks & Recreation Commission and the City Council. It is also intended to ensure
that the Parks & Recreation Commission is working in line with the priorities of the City Council.
At the July, September, October and November 2019 Parks & Recreation Commission Meetings,
Parks & Recreation staff and the chief innovation officer assisted with the preparation of a work
plan that is consistent with the duties described in CMC Chapter 2.36. On Nov. 18, 2019, the
Parks & Recreation Commission unanimously accepted the work plan for FY 2019-20 and is
recommending that the City Council approve the work plan. Some items within the work plan
are multi-year efforts that will carry over into future years.
