Subject: Donation from the Carlsbad Friends of the Arts in the amount of $38,400
Recommended Action
Adopt a resolution accepting a donation of $38,400 from the Carlsbad Friends of the Arts in
support of the fiscal year 2020‐21 cultural arts programs.
Executive Summary
The Carlsbad Friends of the Arts has generously offered to donate $38,400 to City of Carlsbad’s
Library & Cultural Arts department in support of fiscal year 2020‐21 cultural arts programs.
Donations exceeding $5,000 must be approved by the City Council under Carlsbad Municipal
Code 2.08.100.
Discussion
The Carlsbad Friends of the Arts is a non‐profit, community‐based organization, founded in
1987 with the mission to support cultural arts programs and activities in the City of Carlsbad.
The Carlsbad Friends of the Arts raise funds through opportunity drawings conducted at the
TGIF concerts, advertisements in a souvenir program distributed at the concerts and through its
membership program. The group’s donation of $38,400 will support cultural arts programs,
both new and well‐established. A letter of appreciation will be sent on behalf of the City of
Carlsbad and the Library & Cultural Arts Department to acknowledge the ongoing support from
the Friends of the Arts in championing cultural arts programming.
Fiscal Analysis
The donation from the Carlsbad Friends of the Arts will provide partial funding for Cultural Arts
Office programs such as gallery receptions and Starring Artists. Appropriation of these funds is
included in the fy 2020‐21 budget process.
Next Steps
The Library & Cultural Arts Department will apply these funds as appropriated in the fy 2020‐21
budget to deliver the identified programs and services.

This action does not constitute a “project” within the meaning of the California Environmental
Quality Act under Public Resources Code section 21065 in that it has no potential to cause
either a direct physical change in the environment, or a reasonably foreseeable indirect physical
change in the environment, and therefore does not require environmental review.
Public Notification and Outreach
Public notice of this item was posted in accordance with the Ralph M. Brown Act and it was
available for public viewing and review at least 72 hours prior to scheduled meeting date.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD,
CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTING A DONATION OF $38,400 FROM THE CARLSBAD
FRIENDS OF THE ARTS IN SUPPORT OF THE FY 2020-21 CULTURAL ARTS
PROGRAMS
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California has determined that the Carlsbad
Friends of the Arts have generously offered to donate $38,400 to the City of Carlsbad's Library &
Cultural Arts Department; and
WHEREAS, acceptance of this donation will provide support of FY 2020-21 cultural arts
programs.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California, as
follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
2. That the City Council accepts with thanks the donation of $38,400 from the Carlsbad
Friends of the Arts.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a Regular Meeting of the City Council of the City of
