and appropriating funds.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The Board is being asked to approve out-of-state travel for the General Manager to
attend the 1994 Colorado River Water Users Association Conference.
The Colorado River Water Users Association is made up of members of the seven basin
states. These are Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, Nevada, New Mexico, Arizona and California. This association deals with all issues concerning the Colorado River and the
Colorado River Board. That Board works closely with and advises the U.S. Bureau of
Reclamation, operators of the dams situated on the river.
Since San Diego County presently receives from 75% to 80% of its imported water from
the Colorado River, it is important to keep abreast of the latest issues concerning the
river. Some recent issues that concern San Diego County and the City of Carlsbad
relates to the potential for increased conservation efforts if California experiences another
dry winter, TDS (total dissolved solids) or salt levels in the river which affect potential
reclaimed water usage and water marketing and its effects on the lower basin states.
These and other related topics will be discussed at this conference.
