RECOMMENDED ACTION:
This is an informational item and there is no recommended action at this time.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD) recently adopted new wholesale
rates and charges for imported water deliveries in the 2002-03 fiscal year. Metropolitan started a
strategic planning process in 1998 that resulted in an action plan that coincides with newly enacted
legislation that stresses the need to plan ahead for water and growth. The new rate plan is
intended to provide the knowledge of how MWD intends to pay for future water supplies and
conservation.
The MWD Board established prices for all components of a tiered rate structure that unbundled
existing rates by breaking them down into separate water supply and commodity charges that
reflect MWD costs to treat, deliver and develop water supplies.
Staff will be making a presentation on some of the details of this new rate structure.
