MONTHLY REPORT FOR MAT / JUNK 1988
The Parks and Recreation Element Revision Subcommittee has recently
revised the Park Inventory, Use Matrix and Facility location map.
These items will be included within the new parks Element which is
anticipated to go to the public review process in August. While
only minor changes have resulted since councils approval of the
park inventory in August 1987, substantial changes have occurred
since the 1982 Element Revision.
Staff is preparing for the 1988 Carlsbad Triathlon to be held on
July 10. Although several weeks remain until the registration
period ends, to date, there are 192 individual and 30 team
participants currently registered for the event. Volunteers are
still needed; call Sara Drapkin at 434-2856.
Plans are currently underway to utilize the 1986 Park Bond funds
to rehabilitate the Valley Jr. High School tennis courts and
install irrigation and turf at Buena Vista Elementary School Park.
Completion of these projects is anticipated before the start of the
next school year.
The city wide youth track and field competition held on April 30th,
qualified more than 70 youngsters for the county wide competition
in May. A total of 46 medals were won by Carlsbad participants -
a new record, Congratulations!
A summer volleyball camp is scheduled June 21st - July 1, 1988, for
grades 9th - 12th and July 5th - 8th for grades 6th - 8th at
Stagecoach Community Park gumnasium. Instruction will be provided
by members of the U.S. Women's Volleyball Team. Stagecoach gym
will also provide a youth basketball camp instructed by a variety
of North County coaches. For more information call 434-2895.
Mark your calendar for the Pops Concert on September 4, 1988. Turf
for your aesthetic pleasure and seating comfort will once again be
provided compliments of the Parks Maintenance Division - Enjoy.
