MONTHLY REPORT FOR AUGUST / SEPTEMBER 1988
P & D Technologies, the firm selected to examine the potential for a golf
course located east of Palomar Airport will make a presentation to City staff
on September 16, 1988. Preliminary discussions have suggested that both
an Executive and Championship golf course could be designed within the
proposed site.
The Parks and Recreation Element revision has recently completed staff
review and will be presented to the Parks and Recreation Commission at
both the September and October meetings. The two (2) presentations, City
Hall in September and Stagecoach Community Park in October, will provide
an opportunity of public review for citizens in both the northern and south-
ern parts of the City. Final adoption by City Council is anticipated by
December 1988.
Over 100 members of the L.D.S. Church volunteered their labors recently
to provide landscape beautification at City Hall, the 27 acre Hosp Grove
Community Park and several beach accesses.
"California Coastal Clean-Up Day" is scheduled for October 1, 1988. The
organization for the clean-up effort within the City of Carlsbad is being
spearheaded by the Parks and Recreation Department. Community volunteers,
civic organizations, environmental groups and private businesses are being
requested to become involved in this endeavor. The clean-up day will begin
at the Agua Hedionda Lagoon public access at Park Drive or the Tamarack
State Beach parking lot at 8:00a.m. October 1st.
One Hundred Seventy Five (175) participants competed in the Carlsbad
Body Board Contest over the weekend of September 10-11. Sixty (60) com-
petitors were in the 13-16 age bracket and thirty plus (30+) competed in the
pro division. Sponsors contributing to the success of the event included Morey
Boogie, Bud Light, Spankers Sports Wear and Bull Frog. Thanks to Robin
Bettin of the Recreation Division and her staff for a well organized event.
Gericos Restaurant is sponsoring a golf tourney on September 24th to bene-
fit the new Senior Center. They are also hosting a benefit dinner on Sept-
ember 25th at a cost of $5.00 per person. Proceeds will also help furnish
the new center.
