MONTHLY REPORT FOR SEPTEMBER / OCTOBER 1988
The 1988 Parks and Recreation Element was presented for public review
to the citizens in the Northern section of the City during the September
Park and Recreation Commission meeting. The Element will be presented
for citizen review in South Carlsbad during the October 17th Commission
meeting at Stagecoach Park Community Center. After review, the Commission
will be requested to incorporate any desired changes and present the
Element to the Planning Commission and City Council for final adoption.
Staff is currently in the process of revising the Macario Canyon Park
Master Plan. The in house project will use the original master plan as
a foundation and incorporate current recreational trends and philosophies
of park development. One alternative plan will include the findings of the
golf course feasibility study while another alternative will address the
community park concept.
The Park Maintenance division recently transplanted a number of palm trees
to the Carlsbad Library. The trees were relocated from the site of the futu-e
Senior Center at Pine Street, this relocation project has made a very attract-
ive addition to the Library's landscape.
The Recreation division will be sponsoring a Youth Golf Clinic on October
22nd at Rancho Carlsbad Golf Course. The response for participation in this
event has been so widely received that two (2) sessions have been created
too accomodate the 126 Carlsbad youth that have registered. The participants
will not only receive golf instructions but will also be treated to hot dogs, sodas
and golf related prizes.
Gericos Restaurant hosted a golf tournament on Saturday, September 24th as well
as a dinner at their restaurant on September 25th to benefit the Carlsbad Senior
Center. A total of 72 golfers participated in the tourney and 360 people attend-
ed the benefit dinner. Proceeds from the two events netted $3,182 which will
help to furnish the new center.
