ITEM EXPLANATION: Directors report November -December 1988. zo HU Zo i/5(ft o(J 0009 December 14, 1988 TO: DAVID BRADSTREET, PARKS AND RECREATION DIRECTOR FROM: KEITH BEVERLY., SENIOR MANAGEMENT ANALYST MONTHLY DIRECTORS REPORT NOV. - DEC. 1988 The Parks and Recreation Commission held a workshop on Saturday December 3, 1988, with Robin Reid acting as the facilitator. Several staff members were also in attendance and the consensus of the group agreed that the workshop results will assist both Commission and staff members perform more effectively as a team. A follow-up session will be scheduled in another five (5) months to further evaluate the effectiveness of the Commission's overall function and its advisory capacity to the City Council. Dave Bradstreet once again performed outstandingly this year as the master of ceremonies for the annual Christmas tree lighting at Rotary Park on December 4th. Thanks to the Parks division for stringing the lights, the community merchants for their support, the Rancho Buena Vista High School Choir, and everybody who makes this annual event possible. The Christmas tree recycling program will once again be provided for Carlsbad residents. Firestation #1 on Elm Street will provide a depository site in the northern part of town while Cadencia Park will accomodate the needs for citizens on the southern end of town. The program will begin December 26th and the Christmas tree mulch will be used for soil amendments throughout our community parks. Pool deck repairs have begun at the Community Swim Complex. The aquatic facility should be back in operation by February 1, 1989. The Seniors division has applied for $66,846 in grant funding from the State of California Department of Aging. If the grant funds are awarded, the money will be used to help furnish the new Senior Center. The Senior Commission will honor the many volunteers who assist the senior program with a Christmas dinner to be held December 16, 1988 starting at 5:30 p.m. One hundred and thirth seven (137) R.S.V.P.'s have been received so far. Our sincerest gratitude is extended to these volunteers for contributing to a very worth while cause. Hundreds of area youth showed up Saturday December 10, 1988 for basketball skills evaluation at Stagecoach Park.
