EXHIBIT; Director's Report - January - February 1989, zo HU Zo to oU 0012 February 23, 1989 TO: DAVID BRADSTREET, PARKS AND RECREATION DIRECTOR FROM: KEITH BEVERLY, SENIOR MANAGEMENT ANALYST MONTHLY REPORT FOR JANUARY / FEBRUARY 1989 The Recreational Facilities Financing Committee has been meeting for the past seven weeks. Several recommendations will be made to the City Council at the March 7, 1989 meeting. A draft report will be reviewed by the committee February 23, 1989, outlining their recommendations regarding a recreational enhancement program. The proposed Macario Park Master Plan Revision and three (3) Golf Course site studies will also be presented to the City Council on March 7, 1989. The conceptual Macario Master Plan Revision and Golf Course Studies were reviewed and accepted by the Parks and Recreation Commission in January. The Chase Field Rehabilitation project is well underway with the completion scheduled by mid-March. Although the Little League will start their practices in the beginning of March, the remainder of the project completion should not interfere with field use. | The Carlsbad Swim Complex has recently undergone restoration work. The facility has been closed since December 1, 1989, however, it is expected to be back in full operation by mid-March. Grand re- opening festivities are scheduled during the weekend of March 4th and 5th and llth and 12th. Festivities will include demonstrations, free lessons, games and refreshments. Beginning March 18, continuing through spring break, water safety classes, including lifesaving and water safety instruction classes will be offered for interested parties. In sports, youth basketball leagues are winding down after a great season with the end of season tournament play starting the week of March 13. Men's five on five basketball league begins February 28 and will continue over the next couple of months. Softball classification games for 108 teams scheduled to participate will begin during the first part of March. Capital Bank recently donated $1,200 to the City in support of the Annual Easter Egg Hunt put on by the Parks and Recreation Department. This event will take place on March 25, 1989, at 9:00 a.m. at Stagecoach Community Park in South Carlsbad and at Calavera Hills Park for those in North Carlsbad. c: Ray Patchett, City Manager (Frank Mannen, Assistant City Manager Department Heads 0013
