MONTHLY REPORT FOR FEBRUARY / MARCH 1989
Saturday, March 25, 1989, the youths of Carlsbad will participate in the
Parks and Recreation Annual Easter Egg Hunt. The event will take place
at Calavera Hills Community Park and Stagecoach Community Park beginning
at 9:00 a.m.
For those kids on Spring Break, an excursion to Magic Mountain will take
place Wednesday, March 22. About 25-30 kids are signed up to go. Their
day will begin about 7:00 a.m. and they will return around 11:00 p.m.
that evening. It should be a fun, yet long day for the kids.
Dee Pope, Recreation Supervisor, will be leaving the City of Carlsbad
on March 24, 1989. Dee has been employed with the City for a number of
years. She has been a valued employee to the department and her presence
will be sadly missed. Congratulations and good luck Dee.
Construction on the new Senior Center is coming along smoothly. On March
23, the Design Team and the Senior Commission will get a tour of the
construction site from Municipal Projects, and get a first hand look at
how the project is developing.
The Senior Program has been approved by the County for another year to
provide transportation and home meals for the seniors in Carlsbad.
Renovation is almost complete on the Carlsbad Community Swim Complex, the
contractor is now finishing up the last of the details. Water Safety
Classes, including lifesaving and water safety instructor began Monday
March 20, and will continue through the week. Pool hours for Spring
break are as follows: March 18-25, Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 6:00-7:15
a.m., and Monday - Saturday, 12:30-3:30. The pool is closed, March 26,
for Easter.
In Sports, the youth basketball season is wrapping up with the season
ending tournament happening this week. Winners from the tournament will
go on and play in the County championships in Spring Valley. The fun
never stops though, track and field season will soon get underway with
over 300 people expected to participate. Finally, regular season
softball starts March 27, with over 1,500 participants playing on 108
teams.
