MONTHLY REPORT FOR APRIL / MAY 1989
The North County Tennis Network (an outgrowth of the Carlsbad Network) was very
active this month with the following activities: The City's entry into the North
County Mens Doubles "B" League finished in second place this year. The Network
is sponsoring a "Tennis Fair" to be held on the Carlsbad High School Tennis
Courts, May 21, 1989 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Activities will include:
lessons from pro's, fast serve contest, and the latest equipment displays. Also,
the North County Network has teamed up with the Carlsbad Golfer's Association
to support Propositions F & G.
The High School Competition Swim Program ends May 19, 1989. The last swim meet
was held on May 5.
Carl Pope, Aquatics Supervisor, will be instructing the Lifeguard Training
Instructor Trainers for all of San Diego County on May 19-20. He will be
training the people that instruct others to be lifeguards. This is quite an
honor - Congratulations Carl!
The Swim Complex will be open Memorial Day, May 29, from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.
The track and field league continues. Sixty of Carlsbad's finest youngsters
recently competed in a County wide meet where twenty-seven of them qualified for
the Southern California Championships to be held in Poway over Memorial Day
weekend. Its the "Best of the Rest" for the young athletes competing in this
exiting event.
The Sports Office is currently accepting registration for coed volleyball, coed
soccer, and 3-Person Basketball team participants through May 19, 1989. This
year a womens division is being offered and women are encouraged to sign up.
In other sports news, the 5-Man Basketball league is gearing up for the playoffs.
Enthusiastic individuals are currently being sought for volunteers in the 8th
Annual Carlsbad Triathlon to be held July 9, 1989. Encourage friends and
relatives to volunteer. If you are interested, or know someone who is, please
contact Darcee Baker at the Sports Office, 434-2842.
Staff is currently reviewing the possibility of providing a pedestrian/bike trail
within the railroad right-of-way. Several planning documents are being reviewed
with SANDAG in an effort to maximize the planning effort within the study area.
A report to the Parks and Recreation Commission is anticipated by July 1989.
