DEPT. *Pi£- TITLE; COLLECTION OF MEMORABILIA RECOMMENDED ACTION: CARRILLO RANCH f PJFPT. HD. CITY ATTY PITY MGR. /f /Mlt-^V'**' \ *"? ,-A Endorse the appointment of a temporary position of a curator for the collection of a Carrillo Ranch memorabilia. Appoint Mrs. Joan Kindle to this position. ITEM EXPLANATION For several years, Mrs. Kindle has spent countless hours researching the history of Leo Carrillo and his Carlsbad Rancho. Through her research, which has led her to such places as Santa Monica, Santa Barbara, and Sacramento, Joan has obtained several photographs, autobiographical documentation and information and requirements relative to the collection of further memorabilia and artifacts associated with Leo Carrillo and his ranch. One such requirement for the release of certain Carrillo memorabilia currently held by various agencies and trusts, is the City's ability to provide for the care of such artifacts. Although the establishment of a museum is considered to be premature by staff at this time, developing strategies to that end would be beneficial to the City in terms of acquiring memorabilia associated with the future Carrillo Ranch Park. ' Due to Mrs. Kindle's expertise in this area, staff feels she would be a valuable resource person to enlist for this purpose. Although this temporary, citizen volunteer position will require no personnel costs, minimal internal administrative costs and possible temporary storage or repository cost may require future funding. 40
