Director's Report - August - September, 1989 17 s c\ i\ iIU v' September 15, 1989 TO: DAVID BRADSTREET, PARKS AND RECREATION DIRECTOR FROM: KEITH BEVERLY, SENIOR MANAGEMENT ANALYST MONTHLY REPORT FOR AUGUST / SEPTEMBER 1989 A joint meeting of the Golf Course Steering and Technical Advisory Committee was held on September 7, 1989. Recent Council action appointed members of these Committees to provide a broad base of community input and the technical expertise to aid in the development of the golf course at the Lake Calavera site. The City of carlsbad will be supporting "Adopt-A-Beach/Coastal Clean-Up Day" on Saturday, September 23, 1989, 8:30 a.m. at Tamarack State Beach. This event, spearheaded by the Parks and Recreation Department, acknowledges that Carlsbad is part of a nationwide voluntary effort to call attention to the importance of the nations coastlines. We hope you plan to attend and participate in this years "Coastal Clean-Up Day". Any questions, call 434- 3825. Five Man Adult Basketball League will begin shortly at Stagecoach Community Park gymnasium. The league consists of twenty four (24) teams. Adult co-ed volleyball league also consisting of twenty four (24) teams will begin at Calavera Hills Community Park gymnasium. The construction of the new Senior facility is eighty (80%) percent complete. The kitchen equipment is currently being installed and the estimated date of completion is anticipated in early November. Fieldstone Development Company recently offered a community challenge to match up to twenty thousand ($20,000) dollars in order to purchase a new Senior cargo van. If you are interested in contributing to this worthwhile acquisition call the Senior Center at 434-4127. The Recreation Division is hosting the first intramural co-ed volleyball program for youth at the Carlsbad High School. The program will begin October 6. The final report on the Northwest Quadrant parks issues is anticipated to be presented to the Parks and Recreation Commission at their October meeting.
