MONTHLY REPORT FOR SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 1989
The Golf Course Steering/Technical Advisory Committee met October
5, 1989, to discuss development strategies for the municipal golf
course. Committee members viewed the course site firsthand, as the
meeting concluded with a tour of the Lake Calavera property. It
is anticipated that Requests for Proposals for architect selection
will be sent out by early November.
The Recreation Division will be offering two (2) Halloween
Carnivals later this month. On Saturday, October 28, Stagecoach
Gym/Community Center will stage the event from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m.
On Halloween night, from 5:00 - 8:30 p.m. the carnival will be
featured at Calavera Hills Community center. There will be food,
games, a haunted house, and good safe fun. Boo on ya!
The Parks and Recreation Commission's Park Site and Facility
Planning Subcommittee will present a final report on Northwest
Quadrant Park Issues, during the October 16, 1989 Parks and
Recreation Commission Meeting. Recommendations will be forwarded
to the City Council shortly thereafter for their consideration.
Gerico's annual golf tournament and dinner, all proceeds of which
will go towards benefitting the new Senior Center, netted a total
of $3,463. Regarding the Fieldstone/Community Challenge, so far
a total donation from the community equals $6,921. Fieldstone will
match up to $20,000 towards the purchase of a 24 seat passenger van
to aid seniors in their transportation needs.
Holiday Park Phase II improvements and authorization to advertise
for construction bids have been approved by the City Council at its
October 3, 1989 meeting. The improvements include installation of
security lighting, park benches, trash receptacles, hot coal
barbecue receptacles, drinking fountains, a large picnic structure,
sinks and cabinets, additions to tot lot, and fencing.
The long awaited daytripper excursion to see "Phantom of the Opera"
at the Los Angeles Music Centers' Ahmanson Theatre occurred on
Sunday, October 8, 1989. Forty-four (44) participants enjoyed the
event which was sold out well in advance. The good news is there
are three more excursions planned to see the play on December 17,
23 and 28. The bad news is, they are also sold out. More good
news . . . one (1) more trip will be advertised in the Recreation
Winter-Spring brochure, anticipated to be out December 20, 1989.
Plan to stand in line early if you wish to attend!
