MONTHLY REPORT FOR NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 1989
The long awaited move to the Senior Center will initially begin on
November 18th. With the assistance of the Rotary Club, the
belongings at the Senior Facility on Harding Street will be
relocated to the new facility at 805 Pine Avenue.
A "Press Party" is scheduled for Monday, December 4th to introduce
this fantastic new facility to members of the local newspapers.
The dedication ceremonies are being planned for Thursday, December
7 at 4:00 p.m. This will be a joint dedication of the Carlsbad
Unified School District Education Center/and Carlsbad Senior
Center. On Friday, December 8th, beginning at 1:30 p.m., the
Seniors will have their grand opening, culminating with a "Big
Swing Band" dance for Seniors from 6-9 p.m.
The Parks and Recreation Commission Christmas Dinner will be held
after the regularly scheduled Commission meeting on December 18,
1989, at the new Senior Center.
The Annual Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony in Carlsbad will be
held at Rotary Park on December 3, 1989. Although the lights will
be turned on at 6:00 p.m., Santa Glaus will make a special
appearance, direct from the north pole, and his flight arrives at
the park at 3:00 p.m. The event is sponsored by the "Big Bang
Committee" and should once again provide for lots of community fun.
With the support of the Fieldstone Company, Capitol Bank of
Carlsbad, Olive Garden Restaurant, and over fifty (50+) community
volunteers, the Halloween carnivals held at Stagecoach and Calavera
Community Centers provided safe fun and enjoyment for approximately
2,500 participants.
Calavera Community Center will host "Calavera Kids Club" each
Thursday afternoon from 3:30 - 5:00 p.m. This event provides
various programs and activities including games, crafts, and movies
for youngsters in grades K through 6th.
The Recreation Youths Sports program is in the midst of the first
Youth Cross-Country program. Several teams are practicing at
Stagecoach, Calavera, and Holiday Parks in preparation for the
county-wide meet on December 9th. Registration for Youth
Basketball is currently underway—through the month of November.
This very popular activity anticipates the registration of 450
youngsters which is double the amount of participants two years
ago.
