CARRILLO RANCH NATIONAL REGISTRY NOMINATION
As we discussed this information is provided for you to schedule
the Carrillo Ranch National Registry Nomination on the Parks and
Recreation Agenda.
The Historic Preservation Commission is recommending the
nomination of the Leo Carrillo Ranch site to the National
Register of Historic Places and would like the Parks and
Recreation Commission's concurrence with this action.
The National Register of Historic Places, administered by the
National Park Service, is the official list of the Nation's
cultural resources worthy of preservation. Authorized under the
National Historic Preservation Act, the National Register is part
of a national program to coordinate and support public and
private efforts to identify, evaluate, and protect our historic
and archaeological resources. Listing in the National Register
assists in the preservation of historic properties by providing
National recognition of the value of historic properties
individually and collectively to the Nation.
Nominations to the National Register are made by the State Office
of Historic Preservation. Eligibility criteria include: 1.)
Properties that are associated with events that made significant
contribution to our history; 2.) Properties that are associated
with the lives of persons significant in our past; 3.)
Properties that embody the distinctive characteristics of a type,
period, or method of construction; 4.) Properties that have
yielded information important in prehistory or history.
Once properties are placed on the National Register, they become
part of the archive information maintained by the National Park
Service. This information is used by the National Park Service
in administering grant, tax incentive, and Federal Preservation
Planning Programs.
The nomination forms are being completed by the Redevelopment
Office and will be forwarded to the State Office of Historic
Preservation upon authorization by the Citv Council.
