TITLE: CARRILLO RANCH NATIONAL REGISTRY NOMINATION (ACTION) DEPT. HD. CITY ATTY CITY MGR. RECOMMENDED ACTION: Concur with the intent of the Historic Preservation Commission's application for the nomination of the Leo Carrillo Ranch to the National Register of Historic Places. ITEM EXPLANATION: The Historic Preservation Commission is recommending nomination of the Leo Carrillo Ranch site to the National Register of Historic Places and would like the Parks and Recreation Commission's concurrence with this action. Nomination forms are being completed by the Redevelopment office and will be forwarded to the State Office of Historic Preservation upon authorization by the City Council. EXHIBITS: 1. The Historic Preservation Commission is recommending the nomination of the Leo Carrillo Ranch site to the National Register of Historic Places and would like the Parks and Recreation Commission's concurrence with this action. The National Register of Historic Places, administered by the National Park Service, is the official list of the Nation's cultural resources worthy of preservation. Authorized under the National Historic Preservation Act, the National Register is part of a national program to coordinate and support public and private efforts to identify, evaluate, and protect our historic and archaeological resources. Listing in the National Register assists in the preservation of historic properties by providing National recognition of the value of historic properties individually and collectively to the Nation. Nominations to the National Register are made by the State Office of Historic Preservation. Eligibility criteria include: 1.) Properties that are associated with events that made significant contribution to our history; 2.) Properties that are associated with the lives of persons significant in our past; 3.) Properties that embody the distinctive characteristics of a type, period, or method of construction; 4.) Properties that have yielded information important in prehistory or history. Once properties are placed on the National Register, they become part of the archive information maintained by the National Park Service. This information is used by the National Park Service in administering grant, tax incentive, and Federal Preservation Planning Programs. The nomination forms are being completed by the Redevelopment Office and will be forwarded to the State Office of Historic Preservation upon authorization by the Citv Council.
