Director's Report 016 March 14, 1990 TO: PARKS AND RECREATION DIRECTOR FROM: Senior Management Analyst MONTHLY REPORT FOR MARCH 1990 During the weekend of March 9-11, 1990, Carlsbad Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting the San Diego County Municipal Athletic Federations' Youth Basketball Tournament. Approximately 30 teams throughout San Diego, including six Carlsbad Teams will be competing at Calavera and Stagecoach Community Parks. The Carlsbad Youth Basketball awards presentations were held March 12 and 13 at Calavera and Stagecoach gymnasiums. Several Parks and Recreation Commissioners were on hand to congratulate and award certificates to the participants along with their team coaches. The ceremonies were well received and a very nice way to end the season. Adult softball classification games are currently in progress. The adult men's, women's, and coed teams will be competing during regular season play five nights per week throughout Carlsbad. Due to the popularity of Carlsbad's adult softball program over 130 teams requested to participate. Unfortunately, the department could only accommodate the 108 teams currently scheduled. The Golf Course Steering Committee has selected the golf course design firm of Don Collett and Ted Robinson to design the Lake Calavera Golf Course. Agreements are being negotiated with the architects and should be coming before the City Council within the next three weeks. On April 14th, bright and early at 9:00 a.m. a Soring Easter Egg Hunt will be held at both Calavera and Stagecoach Community Parks. This event, sponsored by the Recreation division and cosponsored by Capital Bank of Carlsbad and the Olive Garden Restaurant, is free for children ages 11 and under. Come join the fun in hunting for eggs and other goodies! The Parks and Recreation Department will be accepting bids for the purpose of selling accumulated firewood (approximately 15 - 20 cords). Bids will be accepted from March 26th to April 26th, 1990. Please call 434-2824 for an appointment to see the firewood or for further information. > KEITH BEVERLY V> c: City Manager Assistant City Manager Department Heads CYUTDTT 1
