RE: CARLSBAD DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION
Dear Mayor Lewis:
I would like to thank you and the Carlsbad Department of Parks
and Recreation for the tremendous support provided to our league
this year. Manny Valdez and the Carlsbad Amereican League join
in expressing their appreciation.
Although I still feel we need to work on the Chase Field security
issues, I do believe that a good start has been made.
David Bradstreet, Ken Price, Gian Lauro and Keith Beverly are
have all gone out of their way to accommodate our needs given the
limited amount of field space available. They also gave their
support to our Scoreboard project at Chase and Pine Fields.
I was especially pleased to see David Bradstreet's plans for the
additional fields, both with the Little League sixty foot bases
and the Junior and Senior League ninety foot bases. Although I
know it is only a plan and not something to which the city can
commit at this point, I am sure you can appreciate that with
approximately 2,500 youngsters involved in youth baseball here in
Carlsbad, and that number growing significantly each year, we
have outgrown our present facilities. Without the additional
commitment to new fields, our children simply will not have the
opportunity to pay baseball.
This year, with the help and assistance of Parks and Rec, we
barely squeezed enough field time in for our program. As soon as
next year, we could find ourselves out of fields to meet our
needs.
With your background coaching youngsters, I know you appreciate
how important youth sports are. We must continue to provide
positive options for our young people. (Jlv?
