MONTHLY REPORT FOR NOVEMBER 1990
Special Events again conducted their annual Halloween Carnivals at Calavera Hills Community
Center and Stagecoach Park last month. Turn out consisted of over 2500 participants between both
facilities. Sponsors for the event were Capital Bank of Carlsbad and the Fieldstone Company.
The Carlsbad Youth Cross Country team participated in a meet with Vista November 10, 1990.
Over 100 youngsters were expected to attend. 1990 youth basketball registration is underway; 400
players are expected.
Adult Sports concluded their 1990 coed soccer program at Buena Vista ballfields. Over 120 players
participated. Softball season is still in the works with 109 teams playing at Stagecoach and
Calavera. Adult basketball is also underway with 240 participants.
The Parks Division is in the completion stage of the beach/bluff turf area on the State whale walk.
The area has been upgraded with a new automated irrigation system. Renovation of existing turf
with the application of new seed and installation of landscape plants will finalize the project.
The Swim Complex hosted the North Coast Aquatics Pentathlon swim meet on October 27th and
28th. Approximately 1000 swimmers participated in five events. 1990 summer class totals consisted
of 176 classes with 1441 swimmers registered. Weekend specialty classes totalled 25 with 192
participants. Fall hours start 11/17/90.
The newly revised Landscape Manual will be considered for adoption on November 13th during
the City Council meeting.
At the November 6th meeting, the City Council approved the consultant agreement for the design
of Larwin Park. The work will be performed by Van Dyke and Associates of San Diego. The
agreement outlines a detailed scope of work, design schedule, and fee proposal.
A request was recently submitted to Redevelopment for consideration to apply for Community
Development Block Grant funds (CDBG) for fencing and lighting improvements at the three fields
at Chase Field and for the purchase of an electronic Scoreboard to be installed on field two (2).
