ITEM EXPLANATION; The Parks and Recreation Department has received the attached letter from the Carlsbad Soccer Club. EXHIBITS; 1. Letter from Carlsbad Soccer Club p.o. box 71 * carlsbad, c* November 19,1990 Dave Bradstreet, Director Carlsbad Parks and Recreation Department 1166 Carlsbad Village Dr. Carlsbad, Ca. 92008 Dear Dave, As our 1990 season comes to a close, I would like to thank you and your staff for the cooperation you have given our club. The conditions of the Carlsbad fields has consistently been among the best of all the fields on which we play. We know that your grounds crew takes pride in their efforts and it is appreciated. I also like to acknowledge that Ken Price and Gian Lauro have been extremely helpful in assisting us in finding adequate practice space for all of our teams. Gian has kept us abreast on many issues that may have detered our ability to play under the proper conditions. In particular, he kept us informed regarding the vandalization of our soccer goals at Jefferson field. Without his input, we would have not had the proper conditions to play the games at that field. We have noticed the improvements that have occurred at the Upper Valley Field during the past three months. We are very eager to have Upper Valley back as we had to cut practice times for many or our teams. We are also aware of the beating that the East Field at Magnolia has taken over the past two-three years. With Upper Valley as a full sized field, we may be able to take some time off of the Magnolia East Field so that it could be reconditioned. Dave, we want you to keep soccer in mind for your future park planning. With the World Cup in the United States in 1994, we anticipate a surge in interest in youth soccer. We are looking forward to having a youth sized field at Larwin Park and more full sized fields as the new parks come on line. We are also looking forward to the inclusion of an indoor soccer complex in the near future. I know that some of our players have gone to San Marcos to play in their newly built facility. I know that Carlsbad Soccer Club players would enthusiastically greet the opportunity to have an indoor facility in their home town. Again thanks to you and your staff for all the efforts to make Carlsbad a great place to play soccer. Sincerely Greg Armstrong, cc Ken Price, Gian Lauro 29
