MONTHLY REPORT FOR SEPTEMBER-OCTOBER 1991
During the October 15th, 1991 City Council meeting, the City Council directed staff to
initiate applications for the installation of time lock gates at the Beech Street and Grand
Avenue coastal accessways. Applications will be submitted to the staff of the Coastal
Commission for their review and recommendation prior to actual consideration by the
Coastal Commission.
Stabilization work is currently underway at the Carrillo Ranch utilizing grant funds provided
by the State Office of Historical Preservation. The stabilization work consists of retrofitting
several structures in an effort to meet earthquake standards. The priority structures
receiving stabilization will be the main Hacienda, the Dee Dee house, and the Cantina. The
caretaker of the ranch has temporarily relocated his residence to the foreman's house until
the stabilization of the main residence can be completed. Staff is in the process of
evaluating a park proposal related to the Carrillo Ranch as submitted by Rick Engineering,
the design consultants for the property owners of Zone 18 of the Local Facilities
Management Plan. Currently staff is meeting inter-departmentally with members of the
Planning, Engineering, and Growth Management staff and will soon meet with Rick
Engineering at the site for further evaluation of the park proposal. It is staffs expectation .
that the subcommittee consisting of representatives of the Arts, Historic Preservation, and
Parks and Recreation Commissions will soon be reactivated to assist in the park planning
process.
The City Council recently adopted the new Facility Use Regulations for the Senior Center.
Previously, the Facility Use Regulations closely paralleled that of the Recreation Facility Use
Regulations. However, the new regulations are more appropriately designed to consider the
uniqueness of the Senior Center and the various amenities offered. The annual Gerico's golf
tournament recently raised $1,576 to benefit the Senior Center. In addition, the Gerico's
dinner tickets are still available for $5 each which allows the purchaser one of many dinner
entrees (a steal at twice the price). Contact the Senior Center to obtain tickets for these
culinary delights while providing a benefit to the Center. New coming attractions at the
Senior Center will provide interested seniors with classes in embossing, origami, and the
creation of chocolate holiday treats.
BOO! The Special Events division of the Recreation Department is currently preparing for

activity is considered one of the most popular events offered by the Recreation Department.

to draw a number oLparticipants from this age group.
