TITLE:DIRECTOR'S REPORT (INFO) RECOMMENDED ACTION: Accept and file. ITEM EXPLANATION: Attached is the Director's Report for March - April 1992. EXHIBIT: 1. Director's Report - March/April 1992 13 March 11, 1992 TO: PARKS AND RECREATION DIRECTOR FROM: Senior Management Analyst MONTHLY REPORT FOR MARCH-APRIL 1992 Larwin Park; Park development concept plans for the Larwin site will be received by the Parks and Recreation Commission at the March 16th meeting. Staff is recommending that the Commission endorse a park design that will provide for picnic areas, tennis and basketball courts, play lots, trails, and open play areas. Carlsbad Boulevard Medians: Park Maintenance crews are currently improving the medians on Carlsbad Boulevard adjacent to SDG&E. Over the past several months, an accumulation of sand has created "sand dunes" in the medians, which was not part of the original landscape plan. The buildup of sand is being redeposited on the beaches where it belongs and the plant material is being rehabilitated. Golf Course: Municipal Projects and Parks and Recreation Department staff are currently working to solve several outstanding issues related to the Lake Calavera Municipal Golf Course project. These issues include a Coastal Sage Mitigation Plan, water resource alternatives, and access options. Daytrippers: Anza Borrego Desert (Spring flower time), Thursday March 26, departs at 7:30 a.m. and returns at 6:00 p.m. Points of interest along the way include Dudleys Bakery, Bates Nut Farm and Grapefruit Farm. San Diego Padres Opening Day game is April 9th. Transportation for the opener departs at 5:15 p.m. "The Glory of Easter" Saturday, April 11, at the Crystal Cathedral in Orange County. Transportation departs at 4:45 p.m Contact the Harding Community Center for further information. Adult Sports: The Carlsbad Parks and Recreation Department Adult Softball Spring/Summer League begins this week. A total of 108 men's, women's, and co-ed teams are scheduled for season play. Youth Sports; The Youth Basketball Program is hosting the end of the season play-offs at the Calavera Hills and Stagecoach community parks. The play-offs culminate perhaps the most popular of any of our recreation programs that the department has to offer.
