Director's Report - April 1993. 007 April 13, 1993 TO: PARKS AND RECREATION DIRECTOR VIA: Senior Management FROM: Recreation Supervisor I DIRECTOR'S REPORT/APRIL, 1993 Youth Sports Robin Bettin has her youth staff preparing for a busy summer as they host four different sports camps. Two youth basketball and one girls' high school basketball camps are slated for the summer months. Additionally, a youth volleyball camp will take place. Sites for these camps are Calavera Hills and Stagecoach Parks. Stagecoach Park Robin also adds that new class sessions begin the week of the 20th and that spring picnic rentals are extremely busy this time of year. Special Events Staff has just completed one of their busiest times of the year. Youth Day Camps have just concluded at both Holiday and Calavera Hills Parks. More than 100 youngsters enjoyed a week of activities during the holiday break. Special Events staff also just completed the annual Egg Hunts with more than 2,000 youngsters enjoying the festivities at three City sites. Aquatics Carl Pope reports that the pool remains busy since its recent re-opening. Still on the schedule are three remaining Carlsbad High School swim meets as well as a Masters swim meet on April 17th. Spring swim lessons begin the 23rd and 24th. Just completed is the annual basic lifeguarding class with Carl at the helm as principal instructor. Scheduled for April 30th, the pool will be the site for "Good Citizens Day" as Hope Elementary School will be bringing their students who have demonstrated outstanding citizenship to the pool for a day of festivities. Seniors Terri House proclaims the recent Senior Fashion Show a resounding success. More than 100 seniors attended the show as local women escorted by local gentlemen showed off many attractive styles in outfits. Flowers for the escorts and hostesses were generously donated by Frazee's and Von's. The Senior Center was standing room only for this great event. EXHIBIT 1 008 Director's Report Page Two Terry also adds that a representative from the Audubon Society is scheduled to speak to interested seniors regarding wildlife and birds that make the local lagoons their home. This event is slated for late May. Enrichment Classes The new brochure is nearly here. Starting May 7 Carlsbad residents should start receiving their brochures at home. Important dates for registration are listed in the brochure to offer Carlsbad residents priority registration for the summer. One important class that Supervisor Gail Watts keynotes is the Child and Infant CPR Class. The class will be held at Calavera Hills Community Center on Wednesday, May 12. Adult Sports Gail reminds everyone that 3-Man Basketball and Coed Volleyball leagues begin in May and run through September. Registration for these two sports runs from May 10-28. Spotlight on our Employees Lori Swenck and Andy Meade were co-winners of the part-time employee of the quarter for the period of January-March 1993. Lori has just finished an outstanding youth basketball season while Andy continues great work as the Adult Sports Assistant Coordinator. Congratulations to both for exemplary work.
