RECOMMENDED ACTION:
If the Commission concurs, approve in concept of a tree planting program in City
parks which would serve to memorialize deceased individuals. Direct staff to develop
guidelines for the program and establish a donation account to fund its performance.
ITEM EXPLANATION;
The Department has received a request from Hospice of the North Coast (Exhibit 1)
to allow for the planting of trees within park sites which would serve to memorialize
deceased individuals. A representative of Hospice of the North Coast will elaborate
on this request.
If the Commission concurs with this proposal, staff recommends that guidelines be
established to define specific areas within specific park sites only for the
implementation of this program. In addition, it is recommended that no funds other 7
than those contributed and deposited within a special donation account be expended }
for the implementation and/or maintenance/replacement for this program.

Dear Mr. Bradstreet:
As President of Hospice of the North Coast, our board of
directors authorized me to request approval of an idea
which could benefit the City of Carlsbad as well as
Hospice of the North Coast.
