Director's Report - December, 1994. 07 December 14, 1994 TO: PARKS AND RECREATION DIRECTOR FROM: Recreation Supervisor I DIRECTOR'S REPORT - DECEMBER 1994 AQUATICS Carl Pope reports that the Aquatics Center is experiencing a rare occurrence, a quiet time, as the holiday season approaches. Staff is involved in various maintenance projects currently and during the next many weeks through the end of the year. Carl adds that the Third Edition of the Junior High Water Polo Program is almost complete, and another exciting edition of the league is slated to begin January 9, 1995. DAYTRIPPERS The wildly popular annual sojourn to the Rose Bowl Parade is scheduled for Monday, January 2, 1995. Dave Millikan reports great seats with the sun at your back are in the offing and seats are still available for this world famous parade. SENIORS Teri House forwards the events of recent and future that active seniors enjoy at the City's fine Senior Center: Homebound Seniors, dozens of them, will be treated to home delivered meals by none other than Santa Claus during the week leading up to Christmas as part of the home-delivered meals program. December 8, marked the 5th Anniversary of the City's beautiful Senior Center. Festivities included a slide show documenting the progress made during the 5 years. A scrumptious cake and City Council representatives joined the Mayor in celebrating the red letter day highlighted the afternoon. More than 150 Seniors joined staff in celebrating as welll On Monday, December 12, a holiday program with the headliners "The Swinging Rockerettes" drew nearly 100 people to the center . The Rockerettes are line dancers; not your liners of today, but like the original line dancers "The Rockettes" of Radio City Music Hall of Fame! The Senior Center is gearing up for a "huge" Bake and "White Elephant" Sale. The sale is scheduled for December 14, as Seniors can expect great bargains and succulent baked goods to tickle the pallet! 1995 will signal the formation of a new book review group. That's right, a new book review group that reviews new and old books alike. 08 YOUTH SPORTS Let The Games Beginl Youth Basketball has now completed two weeks as its season begins with more that 700 community youngsters taking to the hardcourt, ages 7-18. Upcoming for the section is the Annual Youth Baseball Clinic slated for the 2nd week of January at Calavera Hills Park and is run by the department's very own stellar instructor, Joe Pimental. SPECIAL EVENTS The Winter Dance is in the books again and again, a great success as more than 300 Junior High youngsters enjoyed dancing, refreshments and contests on Friday, December 2, at Calavera Hills Community Center. Upcoming events for this section include a kids winter camp at Calavera Hills in the week leading to Christmas. Kruger House had their Holiday program on December 7, at the Senior Center, over 100 children performed various Christmas skits and songs. PARKS Scout House playground equipment project has been completed which includes the playground enclosure, sand and the bike path.
