Staff is looking forward to the installation of the Aquatic Center's new Automated Chemical Control System. Scheduled to be in place by the end of the month, the system will offer 24 hour a day/7 days a week monitoring and control of the Center's water and chemical balance. SENIORS Trips for the month included a busload to the picturesque village of Big Bear Lake. Highlights included a narrated boat tour of the lake nestled into the valley adjacent to this quaint town. An equally attractive trip to the awe-inspiring "Crystal Cathedral" in Orange County was also very well received by the senior constituents. Teri House passes on information that active seniors can look forward to a busy October as they catch their breath following a whirlwind September. Recently completed in late September was the "Memory Workshop" supported by materials from the American Association of Retired Persons. Staff and a lead volunteer led discussion on helping seniors find tools/ways to improve their own memories. Upcoming events of note for October include the long awaited and much anticipated seminar, "All About Xeriscape", presented by renown speaker Mark Steyaert who also happens to be our "ace" Park Development Coordinator. Mark will be presenting his materials on October 16 at 1:00 p.m. at the Senior Center. An equally popular class offered is receiving quite a reception at the Center, Country Line Dancing is sweeping the nation, and is being offered at the Senior Center starting Thursday, October 26. Pre- registration is required so do so soon. A large turnout is expected for this class that runs $10/5 lessons and last 11/z hours each. This is without questions an outstanding value!! 10 PARKS The City Council has awarded the American with Disabilities Act/Playground Improvements Contract to the low bidder. Work on these projects at Calavera, Stagecoach, Holiday and Laguna Rivera Parks will begin in Early November. This project involves replacing or modifying play equipment to make them accessible to handicap persons and includes a rubberized surfacing around the play equipment.
