TITLE: REQUEST OF HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION/
HOSP GROVE (ACTION)
RECOMMENDED ACTION: ftffrOX/€
C^\vjo <^J6
If the Commission concurs, approve the request for the Historic Preservation Commission to install
interpretive signage in Hosp Grove Park.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The Historic Preservation Commission is interested in placing an interpretive sign or plaque in the
new Hosp Grove Park currently being developed. The purpose of the sign/plaque would be to
explain the historical significance of Hosp Grove.
Precise design and location of the sign/plaque is yet to be determined, however it will most likely
be a maximum of 2 feet by 3 feet in size and will probably be located at the east end of the
parking lot where people will enter the park. The exact design, location and installation will be
coordinated with Community Services staff.
Funding for construction and maintenance (damage repair or replacement cost) of the sign/plaque
will be the responsibility of the Historic Preservation Commission. However, since the funding for
Hosp Grove Park is coming from a project specific State grant, there may be an opportunity to
fund all or a portion of the historic interpretive signage if any money is remaining after completion
of the park construction.
Commission concurrence of this item would be consistent with the implementing programs
identified in the Parks and Recreation element. Specifically, that program states: "work
cooperatively with the Historic Preservation Commission and Cultural Arts Commission to
effectively sustain and promote awareness of historically and/or culturally significant facilities and
programs."
FISCAL IMPACT:
The cost of the sign is not anticipated to exceed $750.00.
