ITEM EXPLANATION: Attached is the Summary Report of the January 15, 1996 Parks and Recreation Commission meeting. EXHIBIT: 1. PRC Summary Report 1-15-96 14 January 18, 1996 TO: MAYOR LEWIS MAYOR PRO-TEM NYGAARD CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS FROM: Community Services Director SUMMARY REPORT OF THE JANUARY 15, 1996 PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING CONSENT CALENDAR: The following items (1-3) were unanimously (6-0) approved by the Commission 1. DIRECTOR'S REPORT - January 1996 2. SUMMARY REPORT - December 18, 1995 Parks and Recreation Commission Meeting 3. RECEIPT OF DONATION - The Commission received a total of $1,128.00 in funds and merchandise to support the 1995-96 Youth Basketball League. It was recommended that the Council accept donation. 4. HOSP GROVE (SUA) HISTORICAL PLAQUE - After being pulled for discussion, the Commission recommended wording for an interpretive plaque to be placed at the newly developed Hosp Grove Special Use Area. PUBLIC HEARINGS: None. DEPARTMENTAL REPORTS: 5. ARTS COMMISSION REQUEST/SCULPTURE FOR HOSP GROVE PARK - The Commission recommended 5-1 (Davidson) to place the art sculpture "Mother Earth, Father Sky" in Hosp Grove Special Use Area on a temporary basis, to be reviewed by the Commission at the end of six months. 15 6. CARRILLO RANCH/REQUEST FOR CALIFORNIA LANDMARK STATUS - The Commission approved in concept 5-0-1 (Davidson) a request from a preservation organization (E Clampus Vitus) to apply for California Landmark Status for the Carrillo Ranch. Council presentation is pending. 7. LAWN BOWLING REQUEST/POINSETTIA PARK - The Commission unanimously (6-0) denied a request to develop a lawn bowling facility in Poinsettia Park and reiterated it's previous recommendation that the facility be considered during the Larwin Park Master Plan process. 8. AVIARA OAKS SOCCER FIELD/REQUEST FROM LIGHTNING SOCCER CLUB - By a vote of 5-0-1 (Cox) staff was directed to resolve a field scheduling request by Lightning Soccer to accommodate soccer league tryouts during regularly scheduled seasonal baseball play. **Do to February holidays, the February meeting of the Parks and Recreation Commission has been scheduled for February 5, 1996.
