DIRECTOR'S REPORT -
YOUTH SPORTS
Staff is busy preparing for the upcoming track meet to be held Saturday, April 27, 1996
at Carlsbad High. The afterschool Track Training Program began on Monday, April 8th.
Training sessions will run from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday and Wednesday at Valley
Jr. High and Tuesday and Thursdays at Stagecoach Park. The program is open to
youngsters born in 1981 - 1989. These will be fun and instructional sessions designed
to prepare youngsters for the annual meet.
SPECIAL EVENTS
Special Events has just completed the always popular Spring Egg Hunts. Hunts were
held Saturday, April 6 at Holiday, Calavera and Stagecoach Parks, with approximately
500 plus children attending each hunt. Children at Calavera Hills Park were delighted
to see the Bunny join them for the morning festivities.
A fun-filled week of Spring Daycamp and Spring Sports Camp was held from April 1,
through the 5, at Calavera Hills. Forty-two children participated in a trip to the tide pools,
bowling at the Vista Entertainment Center and the San Diego Zoo during and action
packed week of Kidz Camp. Twenty-six young athletes participated in the Sports Camp
during that same week. The sports camp included such highlights as a visit from the
San Diego Sockers, a bowling trip and a visit to the Hall of Champions in Balboa Park.
Stay 'n Play is ready to begin a new session at Pine School. This program continues to
be very popular. Children and staff are busy preparing for the Community Fair to be
held June 7. More news will be forthcoming as soon as the children complete their
preparations.
CALAVERA HILLS
Gail Watts reports that the Carlsbad Softball Association recently completed
approximately $1 ,000 worth of backstop improvements to fields 1 and 2 at the park.
STAGECOACH
Our own ballfield maintenance crew added two tons of dirt to the infields at Stagecoach
Community Park 1 and 2. Crews worked throughout the day on Friday, April 4, to take
advantage of the holiday weekend break from both youth and adult sports leagues use
of the fields.10 EXHIBIT 1
SENIORS
Teri House reports that they also had a Spring Egg Hunt on April 4. The event was full
of fun with prizes donated from community sponsors and a visit from the bunny!
On Tuesday, May 9, there will be a Senior's Showcase displaying products, services and
information specifically designed for seniors. It is free and open to the public, from 10
a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Senior Center.
CARRILLO RANCH MASTER PLAN
The initial meeting of the Carrillo Ranch Masterplan Steering Committee met on March
21, 1996. After introduction of the committee members which consists of staff,
representatives of several City commissions, as well as, members of KUT&A Consulting
firm, discussions centered around expectations of the Master Plan and Scope of Work.
This preliminary meeting also revealed an overview of Master Plan tasks and a project
schedule which is anticipated to be completed by the second quarter of 1997.
