SUMMARY REPORT OF THE MAY 20, 1996 PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION
MEETING
Presentations
Commissioner Heineman's service to the Carlsbad Community, through his work on
the Parks and Recreation Commission was acknowledged and a plaque was
presented to him. He begins service on the Planning Commission next month.
Consent Calendar
The following items were unanimously approved by the Commission:
1. AB 596-1 Directors Report - May 1996
2. AB 596-2 Summary Report- April 15, 1996
Parks and Recreation Commission Meeting
3. AB 596-3 Receipt of Donation - $527.00
Was received from the sale of craft work by Mrs. Joan Kindle. The money was
donated to benefit the Carrillo Ranch Trust account.
Public Hearings - None.
Departmental Reports
4. AB 596-4 Alga Norte Parksite Location
After staff report, the Commission unanimously (6-0) approved in concept of the
location of the future Alga Norte Community Parksite. For future planning
purposes, an area of approximately 35 acres in size has been set aside for a
park which will be between 20-35 acres in size. The actual acreage will be
determined at a future time.
5. AB 596-5 National Youth Sports Coaches Association (NYSCA)
The Commission unanimously approved staff's recommendation to train
designated Recreation personnel as NYSCA clinicians in an effort to provide a
training program for Departmental volunteer coaches and also to assist

Community Youth Sports Organizations in implementing training for their
coaches as well.
6. AB 596-6 Carrillo Ranch / State Landmark Approval
The Commission received information regarding the approval by the State
Historic Resources Commission to place the Carrillo Ranch on the California
Register of Historic Resources as a State Landmark.
7. AB 596-7 Poinsettia Community Park Development Update
A staff presentation was provided to the Commission on the progress of
development on Phase I of Poinsettia Community Park.
