ITEM EXPLANATION: Attached is the Summary Report of the August 19, 1996 Parks and Recreation Commission Meeting. EXHIBITS: 1. Summary Report - Parks and Recreation Commission Meeting - August 19, 1996 16 August 21. 1996 TO: MAYOR LEWIS MAYOR PRO-TEM NYGAARD CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS FROM: Community Services Director SUMMARY REPORT OF THE AUGUST 19,1996 PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING CONSENT CALENDAR: The following items were unanimously (7-0) approved by the Commission. 1. AB 896-1 DIRECTORS REPORT - August 19. 1996. 2. AB 896-2 SUMMARY REPORT - July 1996 Parks and Recreation Commission Meeting. PUBLIC HEARINGS: None DEPARTMENTAL REPORTS: 3. AB 896-3 CITY COUNCIL REQUEST/CATEGORICAL SELECTION OF SKATEBOARD COMMITTEE After considerable discussion, the Commission unanimously voted (7-0) to recommend that the Mayor/Council consider the appointment of a nine member Skateboard Committee consisting of three (3) school aged riders, at least one of which is Jr. High School age, one (1) professional rider, one (1) Mother or Father of riders, one (1) representative of a local Business, one (1) citizen at large, and two (2) members of the Parks and Recreation Commission (with one Alternate). Additionally, the Commission respectfully recommended that Commissioners' Julie Baker and Gary Cox be appointed to the committee with Seth Shulberg as the Alternate. 4. AB 896-4 COMMITTEE ASSIGNMENTS The Commission unanimously (7-0) approved the chairpersons selection of Commissioners' to serve on various Parks and Recreation Commission Subcommittees. The assignments were made as a result of the appointment of new members to the Parks and Recreation Commission. AB 896-5 HOSP GROVE (SUA) INTERPRETIVE/HISTORICAL PLAQUE The Commission unanimously (7-0) recommended to endorse the previous wording of an interpretive plaque which was presented, discussed, and approved during the January 1996, Parks and Recreation Commission Meetina. 17 EXHIBIT 1 6. AB 896-6 REQUEST FROM THE CARLSBAD CHILDREN'S MUSEUM After staff report and Commission discussion, the Commission unanimously recommended (7-0) to deny the Children's Museum's request to receive resident status as currently defined within the Classification of Applicants, and Fee Schedule contained within the City's Facility Use Regulations. It was the general consensus of the Commission that staff should further evaluate requests such as this and other similarly unique situations in its annual review of the document and return to the Commission if appropriate.
