PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION - AGENDA BILL
RECEIPT OF DONATION

RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Receive donations of two thousand-fifty dollars ($2,050) cash in support of the
Youth Basketball Program, five hundred-fifty dollars ($550) cash in support of the
Youth Baseball Clinic and one thousand dollars ($1,000) of merchandise in support of
both programs; and recommend that City council accept these donations.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
The following organizations offered donations of either cash or product in support of
the listed programs.
Capital Bank of North County - Youth Basketball (cash) $ 200
Carlsbad Village Optimist Club - Youth Basketball (cash) $ 500
Carlsbad Village Optimist Club - Youth Baseball Clinic (cash) $ 250
Mark V. Caruana, Attorney-at-Law - Youth Basketball (cash) $ 250
Bruce M. Jordan, D.D.S., Inc. - Youth Basketball (cash) $ 200
Oceanside Elks Lodge - Youth Basketball (cash) $ 200
Optimist Club of Carlsbad - Youth Baseball Clinic (cash) $ 300
The Upper Deck Co. - Youth Basketball/Baseball Clinic (merch.) $ 1,000
Worthington Dodge of Carlsbad - Youth Basketball (cash) $ 500

The Youth Basketball Program runs from November, 1996 through March, 1997.
Approximately 700 youngsters on 74 teams, ages 7-17, will be playing throughout
the season at Calavera Hills and Stagecoach Community Centers as well as
LaCosta Canyon High School. The program emphasizes the acquisition of skills and
an equal opportunity to play. Cash donations will help to offset the cost of program
equipment.
The upcoming Youth Baseball Clinic is slated for January 6-11, 1997. Outstanding
local youth baseball coaches will be schooling kids, ages 8-15, on the rudiments of
the game. The cash donations will offset the cost of camp t-shirts.
Donated merchandise has been distributed to all basketball participants and shortly
will be disseminated to all baseball clinic registrants.
b Letters of appreciation will be sent on behalf of the Parks and Recreation
o Commission.

Funds have been deposited into account #800-519-9210-0000 (Recreation Special
Events).
