CSD TITLE : REQUEST TO APPOINT A COMMISSIONER TO A PUBLIC ARTS SELECTION COMMITTEE (ACTION) RECOMMENDED ACTION : Recommend the appointment of one (1) Parks and Recreation Commission member to serve on a selection committee for Public Art for the Carlsbad Golf course. ITEM EXPLANATION : The Carlsbad Arts office is requesting the Parks and Recreation Commission consider the appointment of a Commissioner to serve on a selection committee for Public Art associated with the Carlsbad Municipal Golf Course. The Arts Manager will be available to answer specific questions regarding this issue. EXHIBITS: 1. Memo from Arts Manager - October 2,1997. 18 October 2, 1997 TO: ACTING COMMUNITY SERVICES DIRECTOR SENIOR MANAGEMENT ANALYST KEITH BEVERLY FROM: Arts Manager APPOINTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSIONER TO SERVE ON THE SELECTION COMMITTEE FOR PUBLIC ART FOR THE CARLSBAD GOLF COURSE The City of Carlsbad has appropriated funds to integrate art into the Carlsbad Golf Course. An RFQ has been distributed, with the application deadline, October 20, 1997. The Carlsbad Arts Office is inviting a member of the Parks and Recreation Commission to participate in the process as a member of the Selection Committee. The Selection Committee will be comprised of one Arts Commissioner, one Parks and Recreation Commissioner, two members of the Golf Advisory Committee, the Architect and Landscape Architect, and up to two artists. Committee members will meet once to look at slides submitted and select finalists. Finalists will be asked to design concepts and make models to present to the Committee as the second step of the process. The Committee will meet again to select the final selection(s). The Committee will meet a total of 2 to 3 times over the next few months. The first meeting will be scheduled for the beginning of November. Would you please place this item on the Parks and Recreation Commission October agenda so that the Commission may make an appointment at that time. Please call if you have further questions.
