DIRECTOR'S REPORT FOR OCTOBER 1997
SPECIAL EVENTS
Marc Beasley and staff just finished their most ambitious summer ever, and the numbers
back up this fact; 658 area youngsters were served through the Summer "Kids Camp"
Program. This number is almost double the previous year. Marc and his staff went through
extensive training in June, and the 10 weeks of camp offered were well received by Carlsbad
parents.
Marc also forwards information that the Department's involvement with area schools will
intensify this year. The 3rd edition of the popular Stay N' Play Program has begun at Pine
School with more than 50 excited youngsters taking part. The Recreation Division has two
outstanding staff persons, Barbara Moreno and Tim Delgado, heading up that effort. Marc
states that he is currently also working with Valley Jr. High and their A.S.B. to co-author and
sponsor certain events for these students.
Finally, Marc reminds us that the Fall Festival featuring a wide variety of entertainment for
youngsters is slated for Saturday, November 1, at the Calavera Hills Community Park, hours
are 2:00-5:00 p.m.
DAYTRIPPERS W
Dave Millikan and Carmen Lopez remind us that a Tour of the NETHERCUTT
COLLECTION will take place on Saturday, October 25. Additional trips include an
excursion to Tijuana on November 1, which includes shopping, lunch and an entertaining
program at the Cultural Center in town. December will bring the opportunity to enjoy the
annual "Glory of Christmas" program at Garden Grove's famous CRYSTAL
CATHEDRAL. Wrapping up another outstanding year for the Department and its
excursion schedule will be the annual trek to the Rose Parade on the morning of January
1, 1998.
KRUGER HOUSE PRESCHOOL
The Kruger House Preschool Play yard recently a facelift thanks to Eagle Scout
candidate, Brandon Miller. Brandon designed, organized and implemented his plan to
put in a sprinkler system and lawn behind the building. His fellow scouts, Nathan Miller,
Greg Shou, Dan Shaw, Cole Thompson, Mike Burrell, Ryan Harley, Benny Packard,
Buddy Packard and Jimmy McDougal assisted Brandon with this project. Brandon did a
wonderful job putting in the grass, adding beauty to the play yard and helping iin
eliminating the problem of dirt and dust. THANK YOU BRANDON!
