ITEM EXPLANATION: Attached is the Director's Report for November 1997 outlining some of the Departments current activities and upcoming events. EXHIBITS: 1. Director's Report - November 1997. 08 November 10, 1997 TO: COMMUNITY SERVICES DIRECTOR FROM: Recreation Supervisor I DIRECTOR'S REPORT FOR SEPTEMBER 1997 YOUTH SPORTS Bryan Hargett, the Youth Sports Coordinator, reports that all registration for Youth Basketball is complete, and more than 700 youngsters will be competing at Calavera Hills and Stagecoach gymnasiums starting December 6. High School sign-ups are yet to take place, which will increase the total program to well over 750 kids, a record for the Department! SPECIAL EVENTS Marc Beasley and staff completed their Annual Fall Festival Carnival at Calavera Hills on Saturday, November 1. Many hundred of kids enjoyed a number of games! Marc's staff next looks forward to two weeks of Holiday Day Camp, scheduled for the weeks of Christmas and New Year's. DAYTRIPPERS Feeling Lucky? The Viejas Casino is on our schedule for the month of November. In December, the "Crystal Cathedral" in Garden Grove will be the site of our annual excursion that includes the witnessing of the Annual Holiday Show, "The Reason For The Season." Wrapping up the Holiday Season is the popular annual trip to witness the Rose Parade in Pasadena. AQUATICS The Swim Complex is well into its fall schedule. As usual we have a number of programs going on in addition to our regular lap and recreation swim. The Carlsbad High School's boys waterpolo team is nearing the end of their season, getting ready for the playoffs. They won their league, and expect to battle hard in the playoffs. We are nearing the end of our swim lessons for the year. Our last session is just about over. We have taught over 1,800 participants in our swim lessons this year, with demand for lots more. As always the Masters, Aqua X, and North Coast swim programs are going strong, with Elementary and Jr. High water polo programs going Monday through Thursday evenings. Finally, its time to start thinking about the holiday season, keep in mind an unlimited use swim pass for friends and loved ones. They're very inexpensive and available only through us.
