SUMMARY REPORT OF THE OCTOBER 20, 1997 PARKS AND RECREATION
COMMISSION MEETING
CONSENT CALENDAR:
The following consent items were unanimously approved (5-0) by the Commission.
1. AB 1097-1 DIRECTORS REPORT - October, 1997.
2. AB 1097-2 SUMMARY REPORT - September 15,1997 Parks and Recreation
Commission Meeting.
3. AB 1097-3 REST ROOM FACILITIES (5) CHS TENNIS COURTS
The Commission received letters regarding requests for an additional community
swim complex.
PUBLIC HEARINGS: None
DEPARTMENTAL REPORTS:
4. AB 1097-4 REQUEST TO APPOINT A COMMISSIONER TO A PUBLIC ARTS
SELECTION COMMITTEE
The Commission appointed Commissioner Pieratt to serve on the selection
committee for Public Art associated with the Carlsbad Municipal Golf Course and
selected Commissioner Baker as the alternate.
5. AB 1097-5 SPORTSPLEX USA PROPOSAL/ROLLER HOCKEY AT
POINSETTIA PARK
The Commission unanimously (4-0-1) approved to deny the Sportsplex USA
proposal to develop a roller hockey/skating facility at Poinsettia Park. Due to the
requirements necessary from Sportsplex, the Commission felt it was not
reasonable to incorporate this type of operations into the park.
6. AB 1097-6 CITIZEN REQUEST TO ESTABLISH A DOG PARK
After staff report and Commission discussion, the Commission unanimously
recommended (5-0) to approve the citizens request to establish a dog park at Pio
Pico Park and recommended requiring a dog owner's to pay a tagging user fee
to offset the annual maintenance and operations costs. The Commission
directed staff to proceed and forward their approval to the City Council.

7. AB 1097-7 COMMISSION SUBCOMMITTEE/TREE ORDINANCE REVIFW
Commissioners' Cunningham and Richards were appointed to the Tree
Ordinance Review Committee and to make recommendations on existing tree
ordinances and policies.
