DOG PARK
ACTION
I El INFO
RECOMMENDED ACTION :
Form a subcommittee to further evaluate the location of a proposed Dog Park and address
neighborhood notification issues as part of the selection process.
ITEM EXPLANATION :
Subsequent to the Parks and Recreation Commission’s recommendation to convert the Pi0 Pic0
parksite to a Dog Park, staff prepared an Agenda Bill for City Council consideration. Not unlike
any other Agenda Bill, an internal review process by City staff evaluates the issues as identified
in the Agenda Bill prior to Council presentation. This process helps insure all issues related to
the Agenda item are thoroughly addressed prior to Council consideration.
In the instance of the Dog Park Agenda Bill, it was suggested that the site selection process may
been more effectively served if the following issues had received great review.
0 Site visitation to evaluate opportunities and constraints
Neighborhood notification prior to site selection and Council review
0 Site visitation to other similar parks
Staff will give a verbal report on this issue and be available to answer questions. Staff
recommends that the Commission consider establishing a committee to further evaluate all
issues related to the site selection process prior to submitting a recommendation to the City
Counci I.
