COMMISSION MEETING
CONSENT CALENDAR - The following consent item were unanimously
accepted/approved by the Commission (5-0).

AB# 698-2 CIP AND OPERATING BUDGET UPDATE - The Commission received a
staff update regarding the status of Departmental CIP & General Operating Budget
request which were previously discussed with the Commission prior to submittal for
the internal budget review process. The Commission expressed concern regarding
the delay in several CIP Park Development Projects.
AB# 698-3 DOG PARK - After staff presentation, public input, and Commission
discussion, it was unanimously (5-0) recommended to provide further review to the
recommendation of a site selection for the proposed Dog Park. Prior to a
recommended site for Council consideration, a committee will provide additional
review to previously considered locations. Although new sites may also be
considered, additional review will address neighborhood disruption issues and
neighborhood notification prior to a site recommendation to City Council.
AB# 698-4 CITIZEN REQUEST FOR VOLUNTEER TRAIL PROGRAM - The
Commission unanimously (5-0) recommended the implementation of a pilot Volunteer
Trails Program as outlined in a staff report and as discussed during the public
comment period. Staff was additionally directed to meet with appropriate City staff
and Mr. Gary Hill to establish program parameters and define participation
expectations of volunteers and city forces prior to City Council consideration. Pending
a policy determination for implementation of a city-wide trail system, it is
recommended this trail development be done as part of the Hosp Grove/Buena Vista
Study previously approved by Council and identified in the CIP Budget.
AB# 698-5 SHADE STRUCTURE AT POINSETTIA PARK - The Commission
received an update on actions taken to increase the availability of shade at Poinsettia
Park tot lot. Staff will evaluate alternative ways of increasing shaded areas at the site
in addition to planting larger trees, and providing shade cloth to the future arbor area.
Plans to provide shaded areas at tot lots within future park development projects will
be implemented as part of the design process.

AB# 698-6 PUBLIC OPINIONS AND ATTITUDES ON OUTDOOR RECREATION IN
CALIFORNIA 1997 - The Commission, was presented with a copy of recent survey
results from a focused public opinion survey performed by the California Department
of Parks and Recreation. The survey information highlights participant views on many
aspects of those Recreation areas and facilities provided by all levels of government,
including federal, state, and local jurisdictions.
AB# 698-6 ClTYlSCHOOL COORDINATING COMMITTEE UPDATE - The
Commission received an informational update regarding topics of discussion at the
May 20, 1998 City/School Coordinating Committee.
AB# 698-8 INDUSTRIAL RECREATION SITE - Staff presented information to the
Commission regarding current efforts and Council direction to secure the acquisition
of property to provide recreational amenities for the industrial based population.
