SUMMARY REPORT OF THE OCTOBER 19,1998 PARKS AND RECREATION
COMMISSION MEETING
CONSENT CALENDAR:
The following consent items were unanimously (5-0) approved by the Commission.
1. AB #I 098-1 COMMISSIONER'S REPORT - September/October 1998.
2. AB #1098-2 SUMMARY REPORT - June Parks and Recreation Commission
Meeting .
DEPARTMENTAL REPORTS:
- 3. AB #1098-3 SKATEBOARD PARK UPDATE - Staff updated the Commission on
the status of the Skateboard Park Development including ground breaking
ceremonies scheduled for October 28, 1998.
4. AB #I0984 CITY/SCHOOL COORDINATING COMMITTEE UPDATE - PINE
SCHOOL ACQUISITION - Staff provided an update to the Commission regarding
recent discussions with CUSD regarding acquisition- strategies to
purchase/acquire the Pine School site for use as a Northwest Quadrant
Community Park.
5. AB# 1098-5 PARKSITE FACILITY/ACTIVITY GOALS AND GUIDELINES - The
Commission and staff adjourned to a workshop setting to discuss existing
Carlsbad Guidelines for ballfields, tennis courts and other park site amenities.
After considerable discussion, the Commission directed staff to gather additional
information and return to the Commission for further discussion and pending
recomrnenda tio ns .
