PARK DEVELOPMENT a
Poinsettia Community Park
Phase I-A is currently under construction. The first amenities being constructed are the
two basketball courts. Other elements in this phase will include two additional ballfields,
an additional rest room a storage building, and fencing around the existing soccer field.
Construction is expected to be complete Spring ’99. Grass will need to establish before
the ballfields are open (anticipated Summer “99).
r
Carlsbad Skate Park
Due to some problems getting the contractor on board, the Skate Park has been
delayed. Construction is now scheduled to start the beginning of January.
Construction is anticipated to be complete in February, however, because of the nature
of the use, the concrete must “cure” for 30 to 40 days before the park is open for use
(anticipated Spring ’99).
Leo Carrillo Ranch
Phase I-A is currently out to bid. The first phase includes construction of a perimeter
wall and landscaping intended to provide seclusion and security for the historic ranch.
The park will still not be opened to the public until completion of Phase II, currently
scheduled for year 2003-2008. That phase will develop permanent access, parking,
utilities, building renovation and other improvements that will allow for public utilization.
The Swim complex will see a lot of Water Polo action during the month of December.
In addition to the North Shore Aquatics Club, the Carlsbad High School girls water polo
team is using the facility for practice and games 5 to 6 days a week (often twice per
day). Activities will peak in early January when the Carlsbad Swim Complex hosts a two day water polo tournament. The January 8, and 9, event will draw approximately
150 high school girls’ water polo players and their families. Spectators are welcome.
The Swim Complex staff has posted a “Winter Break Schedule’’ for patrons planning
their holiday activities. The morning and afternoon lap swim sessions are expanded.
The facility will be closed on December 25” and January 1’‘.
Several equipment improvements have been made or are currently in their final
research stage. The solar heating system’s efficiency has been increased through the
replacement of one of its two pumps. Staff is currently researching and test driving an
autohemote pool cleaning system which will greatly assist in our efforts to run the
cleanest pool in the world. In addition, after almost 18 years of operation, our locker

expenditures on water usage and replacement parts.
