SUMMARY REPORT OF THE NOVEMBER 16,1998 PARKS AND RECREATION
COMMISSION MEETING
CONSENT CALENDAR:
The following consent items were unanimously (6-0) approved by the Commission.
1. AB #1198-1 COMMISSIONER'S REPORT - October / November 1998.
2. AB #1198-2 SUMMARY REPORT - October 19' 1998 Parks and Recreation
Commission Meeting.

AB #1198-3 REQUEST FOR REMOVAL AND REPLACEMENT OF FICUS
TREES AT 3038 JEFFERSON STREET - After staff presentation, public input
and considerable Commission discussion, a motion to trim and root prune the
subject trees and replace the surrounding curb, gutter and sidewalk (in lieu of
tree removal) failed by a vote of 4-2.
A subsequent motion to remove two (2) Ficus trees and replace with three (3)
specimen variety trees (24" - 36" box, 15' in size) was approved by a vote of 4-2.
It was further recommended the tree replacement variety be subject to selection
by a subcommittee of the Parks and Recreation Commission.
AB #I 1984 ALGA NORTE PARK SITE RECONFIRMATION - After staff
presentation to the Commission regarding recent discussions with the Planning
Department and representatives of the Villages of La Costa Master Plan, the
Commission unanimously (6-0) recommended that the City pursue the
acquisition of the entire 32.9 acres site identified as the future Alga Norte
Community Park.
AB# 1 198-5 DATA COLLECTION FOR PARK SITE FACILITY / ACTIVITY
GOALS AND GUIDELINES - The Commission accepted an informational staff
report on the collection of Carlsbad's demographic information and the
Recreational Facility Standards of the surrounding communities of Vista, San
Marcos, Oceanside and Encinitas.

6. AB# 11 98-6 DECEMBER PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION
MEETING / HOLIDAY DINNER - The Commission unanimously (6-0)
recommended to reschedule the December Parks and Recreation Commission
meeting and Holiday Dinner to the 2”d Monday of the month; December 14, 1998
at the Carlsbad Senior Center.

7. AB# 1198-7 REPORT ON STAY ‘N’ PLAY PROGRAM - The Commission
received an informational update on the status of the Stay ‘N’ Play After School
Recreational Program and its expansion possibilities to other interested school
locations in Carlsbad.
