RECREATION STAFF: I I I INFO TITLE : LA COSTA YOUTH ORGANIZATION (LCYO) REQUEST ACTION RECOMMENDED ACTION : Consider a request from LCYO. If the Commission concurs, direct the issue back to staff for further review and return to the Commission with a recommendation. ITEM kXPLANATION : Staff received a request from LCYO to provide ballfield scheduling services for the advanced development of activity playfields at the site of a future junior high school in the La Costa Valley development. LCYO and Lightning Soccer have approached the San Dieguito Union High School District (SDUSD) with a request to allow the two organizations to pay for the advanced development of activity playfields at the location of a future junior high school site. This situation is somewhat similar to the advanced development of the Aviara playfields with the exception that the City will not take an active role in the field development or maintenance. However, SDUSD has requested that the City of Carlsbad assume the scheduling responsibilities of fields for LCYO and Lightning Soccer until construction of the school is complete. At this time, it is uncertain what, if any, role the City would play subsequent to the completion of the junior high school. Staff would recommend that if the Commission would like to pursue this request, that the issue be directed back to staff to further evaluate the expectations, responsibilities and costs associated with this request. Staff would estimate returning to the Commission in April with a recommendation for the City's involvement with this matter. , EXHIBITS: 1.
