Dear Mr. Lowe,
By way of introduction, my name is Keith Beverly and I am a Senior Management Analyst
I have been asked by our local community Boys & Girls Club of Carlsbad to prepare a
letter of support regarding the land acquisition and construction of a Boys & Girls Club
facility to be located in the Bressi Ranch housing development here in Carlsbad. My
understanding is that the letter of support would be helpful in review of a grant proposal
being submitted by the local organization.
for the City of Carlsbad, California. -

Provisions for the development of a new Boys & Girls Club in this general vacinity would
indeed compliment the City's current plans to construct a rather large community Park
which will be in very close proximity, and immediately adjacent to the Bressi Ranch
development.
The Park itself will be developed on 33 acres and will contain a number of active
recreation amenities including plans for a 50 meter swim complex and several activity play
fields to support baseball, softball and soccer Leagues. The parksite is not planned to
house a gymnasium, so collaborative efforts between the City and the Boys & Girls Club
would be most beneficial in terms of joint use of both facilities to best address community
needs, by maximizing the use of available resources.
The parksite construction is included in the City's Capital Improvement Program Budget and
planning for the swim complex is scheduled for the Fiscal Year 2003. However, recent
concerns for additional Aquatic needs of the community may speed the eventual phased
development of the parksite, including the first phase which is the pool amenity.

As a representative of the City’s Community Services Department representing the interests
of Carlsbads parks and recreation programs, the benefits of a new Boys & Girls Club within
the Bressi Ranch development would be innumerable. Any grant funding which can be made
available to that end would be money well spent and a wise investment in today’s youth and
tomo rrow’s future.
